Mecklenburg County Public Health has launched a new program to answer questions. Artificial intelligence is used to avoid human interaction.

The lower right-hand side of the Mecklenburg County Public Health website is where you’ll find the answers to questions about COVID-19.

The Vaccine Information Resource Assistant, also known as VIRA, is an Artificial Intelligence-based chatbot developed by the International Vaccine Access Center.

While the county’s COVID-19 hotline remains open for people to call and talk to a human, Dr. Raynard Washington says that artificial intelligence is another tool that can be used to quickly provide reliable information.

In today’s world people want to receive information in many different ways. Sometimes they want to receive it at different times of day.

Los Angeles and Boston were selected to receive customized versions of the program, as was Mecklenburg County Public Health.
